My New Beginning
In 1992 l returned from a holiday in France to find out that my son Anthony had taken his own life. He had only been remarried for seven weeks. It was inconceivable that l had not realised he had needed help.
l blamed myself, l blamed God. I left church and didn’t go back for several years.
I went to work and enjoyed seeing my great grandchildren, but even my son and daughter could not console me in my grief.
One day my daughter Jo invited me to a concert she was singing in. It was a Christian play called Snakes and Ladders, written by Roger Jones and backed by a newly formed choir called the GLOUCESTER AND DISTRICT CHRISTIAN CHOIR. Its members came from many different churches and denominations.
l really enjoyed the concert. Jo said that the choir were looking for new members and persuaded me to join.
”If you don’t like it, Mum, you don’t have to go again’ she said.
With some trepidation, l drove into town, went inside and joined the soprano section.
During the practice we had a few minutes for worship and put money into the ”love pot” to pay for the room hire.
That night l slept properly for the first time in years.
Gradually l became more involved. I went
on an Alpha course and returned to my church.
My confidence was restored and l became a happier person.
THIS WAS MY NEW BEGINNING.
One year my handbag was stolen. There was a knock at my door and Pamela, the choir’s music director, was there. She handed me the contents of the ‘love pot.” l felt very loved.
It is now over twenty years since l made the best decision to join this amazing choir. We have more than forty members. We sing both sacred and secular songs and have supported Roger Jones in many of his Christian musicals.
From my new beginning l live a happy and contented life with many friends.
