Trailblazers Take to Robinswood Hill
A hot June morning saw the You’re Welcome team exploring Robinswood Hill, one of Gloucester’s most beautiful green spaces. Megan, Jennie, and Nicole are the faces behind You’re Welcome, the county’s inclusive events directory. They help people find out about Gloucestershire’s events and support organisations to run inclusive activities. Their latest focus has been FestivALL: Gloucestershire’s month-long festival of inclusion that celebrates our county’s diverse and welcoming communities. This year’s festival will take place throughout July with a mixture of online activities and in-person events at Robinswood Hill.
“A big part of this year’s FestivALL is a multisensory trail,” Megan said. “It will stay up for the whole month so that lots of visitors have chance to explore it.”
After the team had been shown around the site by Project Officer Jenny Griffiths, the team went to check out the trail for themselves – most on foot, with Jennie acquiring a new set of wheels for the occasion! She gave their on-site tramper a test drive.
“The tramper is an all-terrain mobility vehicle you can hire to go up Robinswood Hill,” Jennie explained. “Its big wheels make the bumpy ride a lot easier and a lot safer!”
The vehicle is easy to control and can handle steeper inclines and uneven ground that a standard mobility aid can’t.
“Hiring the tramper gives you the opportunity to enjoy the delights of the hill with a safe and fun ride,” Jennie added. “Being up on the hill on the tramper was great fun.”
Megan and Nicole had just as much fun, picking out birdsong, admiring the views, and breathing in the scent of blossom and elderflower.
“It’s such a textural landscape,” Megan said. “There are so many different trees and things to touch and a very cool carved bench near the entrance.”
For the festival there will be lots of exciting activity points on the trail and organisations will be holding stands on site.
