I don\u2019t have far to go to discover new beginnings. I step outside the back door to the
garden and see new growth. It is not pristine, so it is a time of discovery to find out which
wild flowers have emerged.
First daisies in the not so perfect lawn. Then I wander past the pond and spot frog spawn,
hopefully it will survive. Sadly it can prove tempting food for the newts that also live in the pond! Primroses are growing around the edge of the pond and there are some appearing in the fruit bush patch along with some grape hyacinth.
I walk on to find tiny violets growing beneath one of the apple trees, their sweet little faces bringing a smile to my own. Later in the year a pyramid orchid often grows in this patch, a pink delight to treasure. The raspberry patch is now empty of the snowdrops that grew there earlier this year, but pale blue Forget Me Nots are appearing to replace the cool white. Cowslips are gradually appearing, their seeds having spread so far that patches of them grow in the middle of the lawn. I mow carefully to avoid these delightful plants.
I can see a few daffodils and crocuses growing in the grass and under bushes. The odd dense blue hyacinth is coming up with its strong smell. These old bulbs were given to me as gifts, once
enjoyed indoors, then planted randomly outside. Fruit trees are budding up and the twisted hazel has catkins swinging in the breeze like lamb\u2019s tails.
A robin joins me in these delightful sights, a regular visitor who is always on the watch for my digging so it can partake of tasty morsels that appear in the soil. My reward is its lovely song. Another year and another new beginning as colour returns to the world.
